Cosmetic dentistry is always changing and improving. In order to provide you with the very best cosmetic dental care available, our team at All Star Dental Care offers a variety of advanced cosmetic dental procedures. One of these procedures that allows us to quickly and efficiently restore the appearance of a damaged tooth is the use of CEREC same day dental crowns.
What Is a CEREC Crown?
A CEREC crown is a specialty type of dental crown that is sometimes used instead of traditional crowns. CEREC means Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. These types of crowns are created in our office on the same day as your initial visit. Unlike traditional crowns, which are hand made in a lab by a dental technician, CEREC crowns are designed and created with the assistance of advanced computer systems. These systems also aid our professionals in the installation of your CEREC crown, ensuring a seamless and proper fit every time.
What Are the Benefits of CEREC Crowns?
There are many benefits of CEREC crowns. While traditional dental crowns will require that you make at least two visits to our office, CEREC crowns can be completed in a single visit. This is because the crowns are made in-office and utilize advanced digital imaging to create the crown.
CEREC same day crowns often appear more like natural teeth than a traditional crown. One possible reason for this is that traditional crowns have a metal core, regardless of what outer material is used. CEREC crowns are made entirely of ceramic. This difference allows CEREC crowns to better reflect light.
Traditional dental crowns are an appealing cosmetic procedure due to their strength and long lifespans. They can last between five and 15 years. CEREC same day crowns are capable of lasting just as long as traditional crowns and are extremely strong.
Does the CEREC Procedure Differ From Traditional Crowns?
The CEREC same day crown procedure differs from the traditional crown procedure in most aspects. CEREC crown procedures will only take one visit and do not require that a mold be made of your teeth. Traditional dental crowns take two separate visits and require a mold to be created.
Instead of making a mold, our professionals will utilize digital imaging to take pictures of the target tooth and surrounding area. We will then load these images into the computer system that creates the CEREC crowns. The computer system will generate a digital model of the tooth.
The machine will utilize this 3-D model of your tooth to mill a dental crown out of ceramic. The milling process will only require approximately 15 minutes. After the crown is completed, our team will remove any damaged portions of your tooth so that the CEREC same day crown can be properly seated. You will receive a local anesthetic, if needed, prior to our team removing the damaged enamel.
